Itinerary - Day by Day

  • Arrival in Arusha, Tanzania

You will be picked up from Kilimanjaro International Airport and transferred to your accommodation in Arusha town. During the short drive (approximately one hour) your driver/guide will brief you on your African Safari. Today you will spend your time at your leisure and relax for your upcoming exciting adventure.

Accommodation: The Bay Leaf Arusha, bed and breakfast

  • Day 1: Arusha Town – Tarangire National Park

After breakfast, your driver will pick you up at the hotel and you will make your way to Tarangire National Park. The drive will be approximately 2 hours. Big baobab trees, bush savannah, and the seasonal marshes add to the wonders of this nature reserve. Tarangire National Park is considered to be one of the best parks to view elephants up close. The Park is also home to buffaloes, zebras, and wildebeests and is closely followed by a range of predators such as lions and leopards, but cheetahs are rarely spotted in this area. From the open rooftop of your safari vehicle, you will be able to absorb the landscape and get a perfect view of the wildlife. You will enjoy a picnic lunch overlooking the Tarangire river and afternoon game drives before heading to your accommodations located within the Park.

Dinner and overnight at Marera Lodge

  • Day 2: Karatu – Serengeti National Park

After early morning breakfast, you will travel through the cooler highlands towards southern Serengeti. You will reach the plains of the Serengeti National Park at midday. The Park is the largest in Tanzania and has a diversity of habitats and landscapes – short grass plains, savannah, thick bush, swamps, and lakes. Bizarre rock formations called kopjes dot the grassy landscape where predators are often seen. Serengeti is famous for its yearly migration where hundreds and thousands of wildebeests and zebras trek in search of fresh grass and water.

Dinner and overnight at Embalakai Tented Camps

  • Day 3: Serengeti National Park Full Day Game Drive

This entire day will be spent on game viewing in the Serengeti National Park. The areas you visit will depend on where the migrating herds are. Predators usually follow behind the trekking animals and include lions, leopards (in the acacia trees), and cheetahs. During the short rainy season in November and December, they move from the hills in the north to the plains in the south. During the longer rainy season from April to June, they return to central Serengeti. As the site of the migration completely depends on the yearly rainfalls, the location of the herds may vary from one year to another. However, your guide will know where the animals will be located so that you can fully experience what Serengeti has to offer.

Dinner and overnight at Into Wild Africa Tented camp

  • Day 4: Serengeti National Park - Ngorongoro Crater

After breakfast, you will continue on with a game drive until lunchtime. After lunch, you will head to Ngorongoro for the night. On the way, you will visit the Maasai people who live in the Ngorongoro conservation area and you will be able to learn about their culture and traditional practices.

Dinner and overnight at Rhino Lodge

  • Day 5: Ngorongoro Crater - Arusha

After breakfast at the lodge, you will descend the crater for a game drive. The massive collapsed volcano is home to over 25,000 mammals including the Big Five – lion, elephant, buffalo, rhino, and leopard – as well as spotted hyenas, rare warthogs, and over 500 bird species. After an extensive game drive and a picnic for lunch at the hippo pool, you will leave the crater in the late afternoon and head to Arusha town.

Accommodation: The Bay Leaf Arusha (bed and breakfast)
